Harnessing the Healing Power of Music

How you can help

Harmony of Hope is grateful for generous support from musicians and music lovers across the world. Luckily there are many ways in which you can help us achieve our mission. We wouldn’t be able to do it without you!

Sponsor a music session

£10 provides the opportunity for five refugee children to attend a music therapy session. These are far more than a musical hour of escapism: They also offer a warm, safe environment alongside peers, an important sense of community, musical education, growing self-confidence and the chance to be a child again.

Donate money towards instruments

You may prefer to donate towards a more permanent, practical option – that of providing instruments and equipment for music therapy sessions.

Most classes centre around accessible percussion and singing (games). We do however offer piano and keyboard tuition as well, and this requires a more considerable investment!

Raising funds

You might like to make a one-off contribution or sponsor a weekly music class by setting up a standing order. Be it a personal gift or a business one to fulfil a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pledge, the following ideas offer some inspiration in raising the funds!

  • Hold a sponsored practice.
  • Organise a sponsored musical marathon for 24 hours.
  • Host an Instrument Petting Zoo” where children (and curious adults!) can try out different instruments.
  • Put on a fundraising concert with the option for audience members to sponsor a piece or song for a dedication.
  • Run a musical quiz night in aid of Harmony of Hope.
  • Organise a meal based around Arabic food and culture, listening to our suggested recordings and artists.

Buy Harmonies of Hope

To raise awareness and support Harmony of Hope’s efforts, founder Helena Lloyd transcribed and arranged a selection of music from the middle eastern regions they work with.

Harmonies of Hope is a fantastic collection of songs which have been sung for centuries, now arranged for piano. The haunting tunes and harmonies are transcribed for piano, creating a new tone palate for the interested performer. The diverse keys and contrasting melodies transport the performer to different lands and different cultures, enhancing the opportunities for contrast on the piano. Many of the songs are linked to the Assyrian communities and are dedicated to the refugees who brought their songs and music with them during their difficult journeys fleeing persecution and hardship. Each song is accompanied by either a picture or a translation of the title giving the performer an insight into the lives of refugees across the world.

Donate instruments

In 2013, and in partnership with Global Hand, we were able to donate 500 musical instruments to Syrian and Iraqi refugees.

We would gratefully receive any collection you, your school or organisation might like to donate for our music therapy sessions!

For more information as to how you can donate or work with us please write to us via our contact page.

We look forward to hearing from you!
