Nour Al Barakah (https://permaculturenews.org/2014/01/09/nour-al-barakah-planting-sense-community-amman-jordan/) is a Jordanian organisation established to serve the needs of disabled adults in Amman, Jordan. For the past year, we have partnered with them to offer music workshops, training for locals and specialised equipment for use in their weekly sessions.
Each adult is now permanently based in Jordan but they all come from a variety of backgrounds and countries.
We realised that music can act as a means of expression, identity, enjoyment and also a physiotherapy tool to enable these adults to live more fully in their home environments. During the sessions, we will sing together, bang on the drums, pass the rhythm around the room and even make our own rhythms and songs.
