Harnessing the Healing Power of Music

As we read the stories from Syria and watch the scores of refugees fleeing the country, it is easy to wonder how to deal with a tragedy on this scale. The statistics are demoralizing (more than 2.5 million have fled since 2011 ) and the future prospects seem to contain few glimmers of hope. What stories do these refugees bring with them?  What haunting images have they seen?  What sadness is carried in their souls?  How they must ache for a reality of home and family.  Harmony of Hope believes that music plays a vital role in healing and reconciling.  Healing can be achieved on many different levels and music has a proven therapeutic and medical benefit.

As we seek to refresh and revitalize the lives of the refugees in the Middle East, our work has enabled us to partner with Save the Children (http://www.savethechildren.org.uk/about-us/emergencies/syria-appeal), SOSVillage (http://www.sosjor.org/) , The Al Hussein School for Disabled children (http://www.cbm.org/programmes/Al-Hussein-Society-for-Habilitation-Rehabilitation-297133.php) and  countless community groups. Please visit our gallery to view the pictures. This image shows members of a community youth choir with around 80 children aged 6-14.  The choir seeks to unite local Jordanian children, Iraqi refugees and Syrian refugees living in the poorer suburbs of Amman, Jordan. Harmony of Hope taught  the choir and provided voice and breathing training essential to well-being and development.
